Understanding Society Through Interviews

From discussing life and death dilemmas with patients in the ER to chatting with internal migrants such as Didi (Uber) drivers in China about daily challenges, I’ve found interviews indispensable to understanding the world. Out of over 100 interviews that I have conducted, a small number were selected to be featured on this website. It showcases how I explored my subjects’ personal lives, focusing on how they’ve been shaped by social, cultural, and institutional forces. It also reflects my evolving paths of inquiry from medical sociology, to urban sociology focused on migrants, and finally to educational campaigns for left-behind children (whose parents have migrated to find work) in under-resourced schools in China.
